3 Productivity tips for entrepreneur mums
We have a lot of respect for mothers who are small business owners. Juggling work and kids isn’t easy. That’s why we prepared these productivity tips for all you entrepreneur mums out there.
If you’re fed up with doing your finances at the end of the day or during the weekend, then we have these three simple things to help you balance your time better.
Outsource this, delegate that
You don’t have to do everything. If you figure early on everything that you need to do – the regular daily ones, monthly or quarterly – you will have a better picture of what is expected from you. Include in your plans everything else that you will need to make time for – such as kids’ lessons, house chores, school activities and so on. This way you can tell which ones are the things that you have to do yourself and which ones you can outsource or delegate. You are not an island so don’t think like one.
Make use of technology
Be technology savvy and use what is available today to alleviate business administrative and compliance burdens. There are a lot of apps out there though, so make sure you know which one suits you best. The best way to do this is to do the free trial first. That way you can easily opt out if it doesn’t work for you. Software like Xero is quite popular among business owners because of its various features. These include asset management, bank connections, bank reconciliations, business performance dashboard, GST returns, inventory, invoicing, multi-currency accounting and more. Whatever business type you have, Xero can accommodate it.
Set a limit and say no
It is easy to get overwhelmed by the number of things you need to do. Sometimes, it seems like every waking moment away from family is spent on your business. This will eventually lead to the proverbial burn out. It is best if you set a limit for yourself each day. Work within work hours and turn off business stuff afterwards. When you’re with your family, be present so you don’t miss out on family moments. As for the weekends, you are the best person to decide how many hours you need to use for the business and how many for your family. Just make sure you put some time aside for yourself, too. Wind down with friends every now and then. It will help refresh your mind and body.
